When going to a concert, provided that it has live music, the drums are not the first musical instrument you see on stage. They are usually placed on the back of the stage, while guitarist, bassist and singer take the front. Sometimes, the performers at the front are so impressive, we forget who keeps the beat going on the back. Besides, apart from the ending and / or the beginning, the drummer never leaves their place, making it difficult for the audience to see their face.

But you see, music enthusiasts like us notice everything. Whether it is an artist we like, a song that we listen to for the first time or a band / artist we see live. To us, everything matters, even the slightest detail. Trust me there, when discovering a song, some details may be so good, you would immediately fall in love with the song itself, it has happened a lot of times to me!Drums

So, drums can be one of those details. Let’s not forget that not all beats in every single song are the same and it takes extreme amounts of practice time in order to perfect a song. So, how come drummers do so much yet we notice so little? Who knows, honestly…

Here are some of the best drum solos of all time. Here, you can hear the drums only, therefore you will understand better what I’m talking about! All these 7 songs are some of my personal favorites and I believe that they will convince you that drums are musical instruments you can fall in love with!

Without further ado, here is the list:

1. Moby Dick – Led ZeppelinDrums

I suppose many of you already know Led Zeppelin. They have many well – known songs such as Stairway To Heaven and Whole Lotta Love, I’m sure you have heard of those. Led Zeppelin were consisted of differently talented members and that’s why their music is so great and legendary.

2. In The Air Tonight – Phil Collins

This live is relatively new (in the 00’s I believe) and when I first watched it I was so impressed. I knew Phil Collins, even though I was not a big fan, but I had no idea he is so talented.

He can play the drums and sing at the same time, which I find extremely difficult.

3. Safari Song – Greta Van Fleet

This is a relatively new band and they have released a new album recently. If you have heard of them, you know that the album was a masterpiece. You can read more about it in my article: here! Some people prefer to praise the classics more, but I believe we should give younger rock n’ roll musicians a chance too! That’s what the classics would have wanted!

4. Java Jazz Fest 2008 – Steve GaddDrummer

I don’t think many people know about this, even music enthusiasts like me! Jazz is a really underrated music genre and not many people are fond of it.

However, many musical masterpieces like this one exist because of jazz and I believe we need to give it a chance too!

5. O Baterista – Neil Peart

This is a really amazing song. I suggest that you listen to all of Neil Peart’s discography and see for yourself! He is simply great.

It is really ironic how so great music needs to be searched for, but I guess that’s how life is too! Give it a chance and I promise you you will not regret it!

6. Rondo – Carl Palmer

By listening to this song, you immediately understand that this man is extremely talented. You can feel the magic of this song and it makes you feel amazing.

Many people will agree that this drum solo is one of the best (others may argue that this should have been on the top of my list!).

7. Beast And The Harlot – Avenged Sevenfold

This is for my rock n’ roll lovers. You probably have heard of Avenged Sevenfold, they are truly a great band. Their style is really unique. This drum solo gives off hard rock vibes and is perfect for those who are into heavy metal and want to listen to some classic rock or rock n’ roll from time to time.

Do YOU have a favorite drum solo?Drums

When talking about solos, especially in classic rock songs, most people only mention guitar solos, not much attention is paid on the hard work drummers do.

I have spoken with several drummers whenever I went to concerts and they have told me that it is extremely hard and tiring to carry out the whole concert.

They, out of all the band mates need the most rest sometimes. But after a few days touring, they get used to it.

They would never give it up for anything in the world, they say, they love drumming that much.

I can not blame them, having the skills to play the drums in a band is a talent anyone would be proud of.

Learning the drums is not easy, but one can make it, I am sure of it!

Thankfully, nowadays the drummers have started gaining popularity (or maybe it is because of Manesking, I don’t know lol!).

It is not that in the past people didn’t notice them at all, but they had to be really attentive to realise the drum solos and drum loops that existed behind the song.

We should give drummers the recognition they deserve, since they gave and continue to give us all these masterpieces. I hope that I convinced you that drums are magical and essential with the list I made above!

  1. Hi Dominique A., I love to just watch the various ones that play in a band. I don’t know how a good drummer can do what he/she does but I love to listen to the rhythm of a good drum solo. I listened to the drum solos on your post, and of course I had a few favorites.

Did you like them all or do you have favorites as well?
