Music is one of the most important things for many people, including me. I was raised with music playing in the house almost every day, and I have loved it ever since.
Growing up, I started becoming more and more fond of classic rock. The Beatles, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Guns n’ Roses and many more are my favorites until today. I am still looking for more classic rock musicians and I am interested in people who make authentic rock music today.
However, at some point in my life I needed a change, like many people need. I started changing myself, therefore I needed my music to change too. Classic rock will always play an important part of my childhood, an important part of my life. Still, I needed the excitement for music to come back.
You may have been in my shoes. There are times when you might get bored with listening to the same songs and artists over and over again. You may feel exhausted when the magic of finding new music is gone from your life. You may feel that music just doesn’t do it for you anymore.
That’s how I felt for some time until I checked out other genres. And today, I will share with you 3 genres that I feel will bring back the excitement for music to you, whether you have lost that feeling or not.
Many may argue that this is a similar genre to classic rock and others might say that they are so familiar with this genre, they doubt it can change their perspective. I have to disagree there. Even though, as a classic rock enthusiast for much time I have come across many metal songs and artists, I still had no idea about the range and beauty of metal.
For those of you how don’t know, metal according to Wikipedia is described with the following statement: “With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and loudness.”
Metal is actually a lot deeper than what is shown to the rest of the world. Even though, we, as rock lovers, may know a few more about it than other music genre lovers, we still are subject to more of the “mainstream” side of metal, if I may. In metal there is a lot to discover and it is the perfect music genre for classic rock lovers who don’t want a rough transition of their music playlist. I highly recommend it.
2. Indie (Rock or Pop)
This is also a very controversial music genre according to several classic rock lovers I spoke with. Some of them say that indie has become a mainstream music genre and more and more young people discover it through social media therefore its quality is not the best, nowadays.
I partly agree because, yes, indie has become a mainstream genre, however, it is much easier to find indie sounds today because of the appealing they have on social media. Also, there is nothing wrong with young people listening to indie. They too have the need to discover new music and the fact that they get to support less popular artists through that is incredible.
Indie will be a smooth transition for the majority of classic rock lovers. Indie rock is something most of us, rock lovers, are familiar with to some extent. Finding an indie rock artist will be easy and probably worth it. It is perfect for those who are not ready for a huge transition too.
If you are tired of all rock sounds then you should definitely try indie pop. There are too many artists online and many listeners recommend songs since it is a very appealing – to – the – public genre. For you, I would also recommend trying the next music genre in my list.
Now, this is the genre I’m most afraid of recommending to classic rock lovers. I, myself was unwilling to try listening to pop artists at first but, I found out it was great for me later. To be honest, I am more of a pop person now even though I still adore rock music, don’t get me wrong.
Pop has been the mainstream music genre for a long time, that’s why most of the classic rock lovers disapprove of it. I say give it a chance and see for yourself. Firstly, there are many artists and songs to choose from and, secondly, you don’t have to listen to the mainstream side of this genre if you don’t want to.
Pop is a good idea, trust me. There is a variety of sounds available in this genre. Like every other music genre, pop has something to say, if you listen to it carefully.
Advice: Try looking for non-English speaking artists and songs
I know, the title is not very helpful or one may misunderstand it. Music in English and English – speaking artists are great and they have proved this to us with their music. However, the change you might be looking for may be in the music of another country other than the U.S. and the U.K.
Don’t exclude a song or an artist just because you don’t understand their words. After reading about the meaning or listening to the music, that song or artist might tell you a lot more than what the music you’ve been listening to all this time did. The excitement of music you’ve been looking for may be there, so let it in.
It is all up to you
You have the power to find the magic of music again and I’m sure you will! All of us have different preferences but it is important that we welcome change in our music.
